Three Years

Today marks three full years since I started this blog. Three! It certainly doesn’t feel like three years, and yet I can’t really remember what I did with myself before like / want / need popped into existence on a random, dreary day in February (I probably shopped less). This blog has become my favorite creative outlet, in large part because of all of you (but especially Annie, my very first blog friend and whose birthday is today! Happy birthday, lovely girl!). Your daily comments, support, advice, laughs, and the amazing sense of community you have all given me have made this blog what it is. I know it’s cheesy, but I couldn’t do this without you. I mean, I could, but it would be sad and lonely. I much prefer having friends all over the country & world to virtually check-in on every day, and I’m so grateful to this blog for making it all possible.

To celebrate the big 3, here are 3 photos of (surprise!) Paris. What better way to honor the day?

This is going to be an exciting year for both me & this blog. So far in 2014, I’ve taken more of a relaxed approach to posting, and have stopped beating myself up if I don’t post every single day. I have some big things in the works, but I’m curious: what do you want to see in the future? What sorts of posts do you love, which posts do you hate, what would you like to see more of? Less of? Should I devote this blog solely to photoshopping my beloved Gary Oldman into Parisian street scenes? Spill, kiddos!

PS. This is my 658th post! You can read the very first one here.

  1. Happy blog birthday Erin, here’s to many, many, many more (I have been reading them, just got a lot of personal stuff going on of late). Looking forward to reading about all your lovely plans :) xx

    1. Oh don’t apologize, you sweet thing! You’re allowed to have a life, you know! ;) I can’t wait to see where the next three years take me! xoxo

  2. Happy Blogging anniversary or Blirthday or blogiversary? Not sure what the right word is but either way, congrats to you!!

  3. happy blogaversary! i am proud that you have been able to take a little more relaxed approached especially with, you know, other things going on in your life here soon. but i have to admit when i click on your page and i do not see a new post i have a sudden urge to call the philadelphia police department. but then i remember you had a goal to post everyday last year and i calm down.

this might be selfish but i wouldn’t mind seeing some wedding related round-ups/idea/inspirations. but if you are trying to save it as a surprise i understand. other than that i love all your posts!! i am glad you are here and we found each other. i just don’t know what i’d do without my twinsy now! xoxo

    1. Ahaahahaha I would lol forever if you called the PPD over me. I’m the LEAST of their concerns in this city, honestly, but you’re so thoughtful to be worried! I know I was super stringent the last year+ with blogging every day, but I’m much much happier not having to scramble to post something if it doesn’t feel organic, you know? Once I let myself have one day “off” I was like, “huh. That’s not so scary after all!” Haha.

Ooh wedding stuff! Yes. I can do that. I had a pinterest board of wedding stuff before we were even engaged, but now that it’s real I’m surprisingly less interested in DIYing table centerpieces or going overboard. It’s weird! xo

    2. Seconded on both accounts! I was worried for a little while when you weren’t posting so frequently, but a post every day is probably not worth the stress. Also, yesssss to wedding stuff! Whatever you want to post I will happily read :)

  4. Ooooo congratulations on your blog birthday! And big things coming? Can I tell you how excited I am about that?? This is a big year for you and I hope we’ll get to hear more personal details about your life and pending nuptials

    1. Haha I’m pretty excited too! I didn’t realize I’ve been slacking on the wedding planning details but it seems to be a common theme amongst these comments! I’ll get better at that :) xo

  5. Yay! happy anniversary! I think you could blog about pretty much anything.. like if you want to talk about your writing or how to write.. or maybe your wedding or wedding ideas ..

My first post is awful its like 2 sentences and it feels like I’m shouting :)

    1. Thank you, Erika!! I’m definitely planning on having more posts about the writing process, but I need to get better about it first. By the time I sit down to write about writing, I’m all out of words! I expect some good changes on that front, though. xo

  6. Happy Anniversary! I’m so glad you relaxed a bit with yourself. We should all be more gentle with ourselves. Except me. I should be harder on myself. ;)

Here’s to many more. I hope it leads where ever you want it to.

    1. Haha, that sounds like a bad plan! Let’s all be gentle on ourselves, yes? Yes. ;)

Thank you so much, lovey. Don’t know what I would do without you. xo

    1. Ha, thank you Julie! Shopping round-ups are my speciality, and if you like Paris apartments, check back on Monday ;) xo

  7. belated happy blog anniversary erin… you know i love it all, but i especially love the posts about your writing journey, life, wedding plans, family, maniac dog, etc… ;)

    1. Thank you, Sue! I have no shortage of maniac Fitz stories to share, but let’s just hope none of them involve the ER vet again! I will be sharing many more posts on writing, and some on the wedding! The people have spoken! xoxo

  8. congratulations on your three years, erin. it is always lovely to see people who have had such positive experiences with blogging and meeting new people and making new friends through it! lovely photos :)

    1. Thank you so much, Rae! I never expected this blog to become what it is (especially because when you start out, blogging is so lonely!) but I’m so happy it has :) xoxo

  9. Oh yeay happy birthday to me! Very tardily! And yeay congratulations! I like to think there is some correlation between my birthday being your start date and me being your first (and only) bbff.

I am really glad you’re relaxing a little. Write when you feel like it and forget what all the blogging Nazis say, I find blogs more genuine when someone writes because they want to. And please I would like more stuff about what you and Jamal get up to. Like licking Ventolin off your hand and also the Urban Outfitters cafe. Your daily stuff which you probably think is uninteresting but I would even like to see where you buy your morning coffee!

    Love you xx

    1. Happy bday again! I trust it was a good one? Looks like the birthday fairies bought you loads of good presents :) I definitely think it’s fate that I started this blog on your birthday and then later we found each other through the Parsons desk. There’s something to that!

I don’t drink coffee and there aren’t any cafes on the way to my work in the morning, so I mostly make a cup of tea at my desk when I get in. If I had to photograph my cubicle I might die of depression/embarrassment. How sad! I promise my daily life isn’t chic or interesting!! But I could plan to do a “day in the life” type post when I have plenty of cool things scheduled, that way it makes me look good :) Love you tons and tons, birdy. xo
