City Space

Chicago-based photographer Clarissa Bonet’s “City Space” project blew me away. From her website: “City Space is an ongoing photographic exploration of the urban environment and my perception of it.” Makes me want to go to Chicago (can you believe I’ve never been?) or pick up my own camera again. Another year, another abandoned 365 project. Womp womp.

  1. Wow. They almost look like paintings. Hopper-esque.

And don’t get me started n my 365. I’m still valiantly taking photos, but an unorganized damn mess they are. One more thing on the list.

  2. I’ve never been to chicago either. Let’s go together!
That last picture is amazing, looks like a architectural model city.

  3. I’m glad I’m not the only one who religiously starts and abandons 365 projects. Oops.

Great photos — you should definitely try to make it to Chicago soon! It’s an amazing city. The two best times to visit are either right now (summer in Chicago is the best ever) or in mid-September, when the weather is at its best.

  4. The last picture kind of reminds me of an Edward Hopper painting – maybe because of the light and the shadows?

  5. i was going to say the exact same thing that lauren said. they also have such a film noir feeling to them. i am going to check out the rest of her work.

i have only been to chicago once and it was very brief. the thing that stuck out most to me was people walked really fast. really, really fast. i think i only visited the business district though, so that was probably not the best intro.

  6. I’ve never been to Chicago either and yet I hope to move there in the next five years! I grew up in NYC so I trust that I will enjoy exploring Chicago when we move there. I want to live in a big city like NYC, Chicago, Philly, or even Paris! before I settle down :)
Also, I too have kind of forgotten about my camera. I was so jazzed about my new lens but haven’t been doing anything fun lately that I can tote it along with :(

  7. Wow. I’m lost for words. Her work is breath-taking! I’ve been so busy lately that it’s been a while since I picked up a camera and this is just the kind of inspiration that I need.

  8. Wow! Like Lauren and Christine I almost thought they were paintings as well. I have been to Chicago once but only for a weekend, really enjoyed it though. Like you I don’t take nearly as much photos as I intended to this year.

  9. Amazing! I love the stark contrast between light and dark. I’ll join you in your bewilderment at never visiting Chicago as I’ve never been either. My husband has been a handful of times and assures me that I would love it. 365? Well, you get points for at least trying.
