Christmas Tunes

I was waiting to break out the Christmas music until December, a feat which required unparalleled strength and an itch I’m finally able to scratch now. To ramp up the holiday spirit, I thought I’d share a favorite Christmas song every Tuesday leading up to the 25th (Christmas Eve, it’s worth noting, falls perfectly on a Tuesday. It’s like Tuesday Christmas Tunes was meant to be!). If Jamal had a say, he’d start with this 1980s Dan Fogelberg song, “Same Old Lang Syne” which isn’t actually a Christmas song at all except that it mentions Christmas Eve in the beginning. But try to tell him that, he will blast this song all day during the holiday season if you let him.

To kick things off, let’s start with an absolute classic, shall we? John Denver and the Muppets will regale us with the most hilarious and adorable rendition of “The 12 Days of Christmas.” The part with Beaker just about kills me.

Happy December, kiddos! What holiday songs, if any, are you listening to this month?

  1. Oh, this is an awesome plan and you must have been reading my mind because for the first time this morning I cranked up our Christmas play lists to wake Callum up. He may have been less thrilled than I was but whatever! It’s CHRISTMAS MUSIC TIME!

    1. Hahah, really?! That’s so funny, I’m actually kind of proud to have introduced you to it then! Isn’t it such a fun song? xo

    1. Haha, he adores it! Someone made their own music video to that song on Youtube, with stock photos, and he loves it because there’s a neon bar sign in it that cracks him up. I don’t know. He’s adorable. xo

  2. Adorable indeed!
    Five gold reeeeeeeeeengs :)

Can’t beat a bit of Mariah and of course top of the list is The Pogues. Merry Christmas x

    1. Hahahah Miss Piggy is such a diva! Mariah Carey’s Christmas songs are out of this world. Stay tuned for next week, hint hint ;) xo

  3. what is it about christmas music that just makes everything in the world feel right and bright? i am pretty sure it’s the one thing that always gets me in the holiday spirit each year, even in one like this one where i was lagging behind a bit. we have a radio station that plays christmas music 24/7 starting on thanksgiving and every year i am giddy about it.

and i have had this entire song “just hear sleigh bells ring, ring-ring-ring-a-ling-ling” stuck in my head for the last 25 years so at christmas it’s like the release on a valve that i get to sing freely and not under breath in shame ;)

    1. It’s like aural happy pills, I swear. If I hear jingling bells or children’s choirs or ESPECIALLY Burl Ives, I immediately feel 20x happier. Instantly. The magic of Christmas music, twinsy. It cannot be explained! We have a radio station like that too, B101.1, and it’s ALL I will have on come December. They play mostly 80s-90s soft rock the rest of the time, so I enjoy them year round honestly, haha.

Hahah, now I have that song in my head, too! Not a bad one. For a while there I had Careless Whisper and then, obnoxiously, Sweet Caroline. So I will gladly replace it with Christmas songs. xo

  4. you’ve got more strength than me. in our office we’ve been listening to xmas music since halloween at the request of my coworkers. and now, three days into december, i finally had to change up the music to something else.although, at home, with some wine and cooking in the kitchen, i still love to listen to old xmas music like frank sinatra, bing cosby, nat king cole, etc. that i can’t get sick of :)

    1. HALLOWEEN?? My god, that’s like a form of torture! You are a brave soul for surviving that long. You can’t go wrong with a little Frank Sinatra, honestly. I love the mental image of you with a glass of wine hand, poking at something on the stove, slowly swaying to oldies Christmas music. Love it! xo

  5. i think you have officially lost it with this one erin! bahahaha! the heat is ramping up here in oz & so far this is shaping up to be the most unspectacularly non-christmasy christmas ever… just not the same without jack frost nipping at your nose!

    1. Hahah, hey, I didn’t make the song, I’m just sharing its joy with everyone ;) I can’t imagine celebrating Christmas in the heat without even the hope of snow! You silly Aussies, haha. Hope you’re enjoying it down under! xo

      1. Christmas in the middle of summer is just plain wrong. And how do you get through winter without the distraction?

  6. I pulled up youtube yesterday afternoon at work and found a three hour Xmas “video” – thank goodness I’m in an office because that would have drove everyone else crazy!

    1. Oh my god. Three hours?? What was it of? Was it one of those yule log videos? I’m in a cube but I get away with my insane Youtube-ing thanks to some headphones and a mastery of the silent giggle :) xo

    1. Aaahahaha, I hadn’t even thought about their Christmas album before you mentioned it!! I love that you are/were a fellow fan, makes me so happy! I can’t tell if Jordan is shirtless in that video? And where is Jon?? How funny is it that both the New Kids AND Arsenio have made comebacks now? The odds of them doing a repeat performance are pretty high, actually ;) I LOVE Mele Kalikimaka! xo
