Tuesday Tunes

I wasn’t planning on bringing Tuesday Tunes into the regular rotation, but I already have one scheduled for next week, and today’s was an unavoidable choice given that this is all I’ve listened to for the past 24 hours straight.

Christina Perri is a Philly native and within the past year has blown up on the scene, starting with a guest appearance on So You Think You Can Dance performing “Jar of Hearts,” and it wasn’t until yesterday that I figured out that it was her song, having heard it a bunch of times on tv. It was like putting a name to a face. “Arms” is such a beautiful song (I sort of want it to be my wedding song one day), and the rest of her album is equally as amazing. She’s currently on tour with Jason Mraz.

Funny story, I can sort of play Six Degrees of Separation with her. One of my dad’s closest friends, Tony, a fellow architect, amazing illustrator (his Christmas cards are always the highlight of the season) and all around motorcycle-driving badass (we have had a long standing arrangement wherein he is always on standby to beat up any boy who breaks my heart), is Christina’s uncle  cousin! (Sorry, Tony!!) I’ve grown up knowing Tony my entire life, and I wish I’d listened to him a lot earlier when he said how good Christina was. Oh well, better late than never, right?

What are you guys listening to these days?

PS. In honor of the 11th anniversary of 9/11, you should all go read Sam’s touching post on visiting the memorial site a few weeks ago.

  1. Lovely song with a cool (in places) video.

I felt as though it could have done without the Mini. It jarred a bit and seemed more like product placement than a genuine artistic choice. Riding a horse instead with the wind in her hair would have been more in keeping with the tone of everything else.

Mornings at Chez Feasey begin with Nina Simone. L absolutely adores her and so do I. From the moment she first heard Nina sing, it was complete and instant love.

We often have Funkier Than A Mosquito’s Twitter on repeat at her insistence. Not that I’m complaining – it’s a great start to the dreariest of days! :D

    1. I felt the same way about the Mini the first time I saw it, too! My guess is they partially funded the video with the condition the car be featured prominently, but I agree with you that a horse would have fit the video better.

Love that mornings at your house include Nina Simone! You’re doing your daughter a big favor by playing good music like that! I’ll have to check out that song. xo

    1. If that isn’t the funniest slip I’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is! Just think, Freud could never have imagined the word “twitter” would have invaded our lexicon!

  2. Great song, Erin. I have heard Jar of Hearts before, but not this song…So, thank you.
So funny, I have come this close to doing a Monday Musicality because there is so much music I’m loving right now. However, Monday’s are kind of full [wink]. (Though, I might have do one in October since there are five Mondays.) For something light feeling, I’m really liking Ellie Goulding’s song, Lights. I just know the radio is going to play this song into the ground and then I will be sick of it. For now, I like. (Oh, yes, I still listen to the radio. I’m old school. ;)
PS~The two degrees of separation thing is cool!

    1. Haha you do have a ton of stuff going on on Mondays, I’ll say that, but it’s all good stuff! You could go crazy and post TWICE on Mondays? Now I’m just being crazy ;)

I still listen to the radio, too! But mostly the local classical and jazz station, haha. I’m and old lady, what can I say. Not having a car significantly limits the amount of new music I hear. Isn’t Ellie Goulding’s song the one from the iPod commercials of yore? Or am I making that up?

  3. motorcycle-driving badass…hahaha…and for the record:
    1. always available if you need me to make someone “see the light”
    2. Christina and I are cuz’s’z’s…
    3. I was once introduced to someone as her Grandfather so “Uncle” isn’t too bad.
    4. xoxox

    1. 1. Good! It’s always good to have a “scary” dude as back up when you need one :)
      2. Woops! Edited that. Don’t know why I thought that!
      3. Hahaha, grandfather. Not even close!
      4. xoxoxo back at you!

    1. Phoenix the band? Or Phoenix the city? Is there even a Phoenix-the-city-genre of music? Haha, clearly I didn’t get enough sleep last night.

    1. That song is amazing! You totally sold me on the sexy silverfox and the saxaphone (saxaphones always mean good things, hello George Michael). His dance moves are ace. Good choice for the older man crush! I approve.

    1. Music isn’t my strong suit so it’s not something I pay a lot of attention to, which is why I didn’t even think to listen to her however long ago. Woopsies!

  4. Ooo, lovely song. I like this Tuesday Tunes thingy! I always end up listening to the same music and drive my family nuts so new tips like this might just save my home life- thank you! I lived in Philly for a year (I was at collage there) it was aaaages ago but such a fab city – got to go back at some point!

    1. You lived in Philly?! I’m a born and raised Philly girl! Where did you go to school?! How neat. I’ve never left the city to live anywhere else, isn’t that crazy? What a small world, Niki!
