Two of a Kind

You might have noticed that things look a little different around these parts. Surprise, I redesigned my blog! I don’t have any other answer other than that I was bored and thought this one looked cool, and I don’t know if you’ve noticed over the past year+ that I’ve been doing this, but I can’t seem to stick to a single design for more than 3 minutes. So, fair warning, the old layout might be making a comeback. Especially considering the understandably lukewarm reaction a bunch of you had when this layout appeared. Don’t worry, I’m sort of lukewarm to it, too. UGH, what is wrong with me?

It feels good to get back into the swing of things after taking almost a 3 week break from doing my routine posts, and I had a lot more fun hunting down today’s two of a kinds. I actually felt a little rusty, sort of like whatever part of my brain is responsible for these comparisons hadn’t had a workout in a while. Now that I’ve sufficiently built this up…

1. Dress / 2. Wallet / 3. Shorts / 4. Shoes

First of all, I know that dress looks like something Malibu Barbie would have worn in the 80s, but with all the time I’ve spent on Net a Porter, the vivid colorblocking was seared into my brain for good. So when I stumbled upon that Rebecca Minkoff wallet earlier this week, I knew it was a match made in weird, blog-post heaven. Or something. And I know the scalloped J. Crew shorts are a bit overdone by this point, but I still love them and think they’d be super flattering on my stems. I love that scallop details are popping up all over everything now. I’m curious though, do you think nude shoes give the impression of longer legs even if they are ballet flats? Not that I’ll be spending $450 to find out.

Last night I had the pleasure of attending my first baseball game of the season (I’m really slacking) with several girlfriends from work as part of a “thank you” from our company management for being hardworking members of the Philanthropy Committee. We sat in the first row of the 3rd baseline, right next to the Ball Girl, from whom I even got a signed card to give to Boyfriend (oddly, he was not enthused). There’s really no point to this little story other than that I just wanted to say I had a really good time and that I feel really lucky. Just a mushy bit of gratitude to start your Wednesday morning.

What’s something you’re grateful for?

  • Philanthropy Committee? You’re too cute! What do you do?

Sorry I think that dress is hideous. I can’t think of many things that would make me look really fat than an ankle lenght shapeless sack!

Did you deliberately co-ordinate with the header blob?

Love the shorts, love all the scalloping too.

I like the new layout, it’s just a little difficult to navigate. It’s a bit like Wit+Delight’s? Maybe it just needs to be columned? (I just made a word up) and like Lauren said maybe we just need to get used to it :)

I’m grateful for having been taken to Paris at the weekend :)

    • Ha! Thanks :) We organize donation drives for shelters in the city, feed men at a homeless shelter, are going to be volunteering with a Children’s Hospital to read to kids once a week, things like that. My contribution is working with a non-profit that mentors inner-city kids and trains them for marathons and races. In fact, I’m going to a happy hour with that group tonight!

I totally changed back, fyi. The layout bugged me for some reason. Felt too glossy, not “me.”

Going to Paris is definitely something to be grateful for :) xo

  • The wallet is lovely Erin, the rest not so. The thought of my pale stick legs hanging out of those pale shorts with pale flats on my feet, reminds me of a breadstick, lol sorry! The dress would suit you tall girls, definitely!

I like your layout too, it’s funky, its nice how when you scroll down the older posts pop up without having to click anything :-)

I’m grateful for being healthy, happy, financially independent, having lots of lovely friends and a lovely husband and kids too x

    • I’m cracking up over breadstick legs, haha. So true! I’m pale enough, I don’t think I need something washing me out even more!

I love your list of things you’re grateful for. Financial independence is really something to celebrate! xoxo

  • Can I be grateful that you went back to your old layout? ;) I’m having a pretty crappy go of it, as you know, but I’m grateful that Annie’s reaction to the dress was the same as mine. I’m grateful that someone got to go to the Phillies this year, even though they lost. I’m grateful that Sam made me laugh with her breadstick comment. I’m grateful that my mom is here rolling out pie dough. I’m grateful that I have such a spectacular husband. I’m grateful that my son took such good care of me yesterday in the midst of all my tears and that he seems to be handling his disappointment much better than I am for him. So yeah, I’m grateful.

    • Of course you can! I’m grateful I went back as well, it didn’t feel like me. Your list was really touching. I hope I get to see photos of your mom rolling dough and your amazing son graduating today! xoxo

  • I didn’t mind your new layout. It was nice to see all your past posts in little windows – A little tease that said, “Read me.” That said, I also like this layout. Whichever way, I’ll be here reading your fabulous posts. ;)
I once had a pair of nude shoes. I wore them to work one day and as a coworker was walking up to me down a long hallway she said, “Oh my gosh, I thought you were barefoot at work.” Ha-ha! I have heard that they make your legs look longer.
So glad you were able to attend that baseball game and sit in those amazing seats! That is something to be grateful for. Thank you for posting the question and encouraging us to think about it…I instantly felt grateful for all the things in my life right now.

    • Aw, you’re so sweet! Good to know I didn’t alienate any of you with my fickle design choices :)

Haha, imagine if you had actually been barefoot at work. What a luxury, right? So I guess nude shoes are out of the question between that and Sam’s breadstick legs comment. I know heels are the number one thing that make your legs look longer, but I don’t wear heels. Oh well!

Being grateful feels lovely, doesn’t it?

  • Rebecca Minkoff – she is responsible for me spending WAY too much money on bags and wallets. Evil but SO STYLISH

    • “Evil but SO STYLISH” should totally be her next marketing slogan. xo

  • I’m seriously worried about your increasing boredom level… what’s that about? Do you need to change jobs? Boredom is such a waste of time:)

Gosh, some heavy spilling of being greatful.
I’m greatful my body screamed at me last week to stop ignoring it! I listened! I loved and very much needed that long break. Thank you Queenie!!

    • Haha, no way! I love my job. I just had a lot of downtime and it was an off day when no one I read regularly had posted so I the time I’d normally spend reading and commenting was wide open. Plus, I’m indecisive and like to think I’m proficient at CSS. I’m always up for a quick change :)

God save the Queen indeed! xo

  • Love love love the wallet and the shorts! Unfortunately it’s not really short weather right now, were did the nice weather we had go?

I’m grateful for all the lovely people in my life. Can’t believe that some already have been in my life for so long.

    • I know! It was so nice and warm for a few days there (I think I actually missed the best weather being in Europe) but now it’s kind of cold and rainy! What gives??

I like your list of gratitude. :)

  • You seriously one up yourself everytime on your two of a kinds, but the green and pink combos could be one of the best yet. Everytime I go on net-a-porter, I get sucked into a black hole and am usually on there for at least 45 minutes…with the sale going on right now, its been a bit more lately.

    • Oh my gosh, I know! The 50% off sale is sooo dangerous. Even though things are still insanely expensive, I try to rationalize it by saying, “but it’s half off!” Yeah, half off of $1000 is still too much money to spend on a dress. Or so I’m repeating :)
