Two of a Kind

Yesterday I printed out all of our hotel itineraries and our train tickets and organized everything with post-its and paper clips, worked 9 hours, and still found time to go to happy hour, and then went home and curled up in bed with “Amélie” playing on my laptop. All in all a good day.

I wanted to give this some thought, but after yesterday’s Tuesday Tunes post I think I came to a decision. I think my run with Tuesday Tunes has come to an end, after 36 weeks of posts. Music isn’t my strong suit, it never has been. If it’s not New Kids on the Block or one of the other 5 bands I know, it’s not for me. And this blog isn’t even really about music, I just went with the Tuesday Tunes series because I liked the aliteration and also liked that it gave me a set schedule. And after so much build up around the release of the new Keane album, I feel like I’d be struggling to find a new song every week. As much as I’d like to, I cannot just write about “Careless Whisper” or George Michael’s eyebrows over and over again.

Which brings me to today’s Two of a Kind. I guess this is becoming a regular series, however unintentionally.  I can’t seem to shake the urge to keep curating these comparisons. Plus, there’s some room for aliteration if I moved it to Tuesday (Two of a Kind Tuesday?) and this feels like it’s much more in my comfort zone than dissecting music.

1. Shirt / 2. Bag / 3. Vase / 4. Dress

I love that top, but the dress is reading a little too “Sweet 16” to me for whatever reason.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the change, whether you’re a staunch advocate of keeping Tuesday Tunes alive or if you’re more interested in this sort of thing. Be honest!

  1. I like two of a kind better. TBH I never listen to the tunes anyway as I read at work and I think it would make everyone in the office jump when it started playing. And not least because they’d all think I had terrible taste in music ;o)

However. I will totally miss George Michael’s eyebrows! we haven’t seen those in ages. I think you should find a way to incorporate them.

How about Tuesday Choices? That’s an alliteration even though it doesn’t look like one. Get Chi to write those posts for you then you can have Chi’s Tuesday Choices. Cheeky Chi chooses charming choices for a Tuesday? Although now I’m wondering whether you look say Toosday rather than Chewsday? I mean, look at how funny you lot pronounce vase!

    Love you! (& Chi) xx

    1. I’d never really thought about that, I guess because everyone at my work has headphones at the ready. That makes us sound anti-social but I promise that’s not the case! Haha. And yeah, I can imagine blasting George Michael might not be the best thing in a cubicle ;)

We do totally pronounce Tuesday like Toooosday, not Chewsday. That’s so funny! Philadelphians pronounce street “shtreet” if that makes you feel any better. You say “vahz” for vase, right? We say vay-ze. But you guys say taco weirdly. I might just drop the aliteration all together (even though I do love Chi!).

      Love you more, bird!

  2. Though I will miss seeing lamps-in-hands, I much prefer ogling things with the possibility of buying.

Also, WHEN you visit…George Michael lives up the road in Highgate. Maybe we can SEE HIS EYEBROWS IN PERSON! *compressed squeal*

    1. Yes to more shopping! And don’t compress that squeal! Georgio eyebrows in person deserve a MEGA SQUEAL. Lord that will be so much fun. I might come visit just for that ;)

  3. Erin-
my honest opinion is I skip over everyones “tunes” post. I’m usually just not in that kind of a mood when I’m looking at blogs. I hope that helps. You must be getting so excited for your trip! Teri

  4. I liked your Tuesday Tunes because they were always accompanied by a nice back story. The series had some depth beyond just simply saying that you liked a song.
However, having said all that, I have also been thinking of scaling back on my music features (maybe once a month instead of every Monday). For me, the decision came when I went to a shorter blog schedule and I didn’t like seeing a video every third post when I scrolled through the blog (does that make sense?). Thus, I’m trying to think of other ideas for a series on Mondays. If I think of any good ideas for you, I’ll send them your way.
What you’re replacing Tuesday Tunes with – Two of Kind Tuesday – is equally as good, so I look forward to what you share.
PS~I swear we must telepathically speak to each other when we’re writing our posts. :)

    1. That does make sense, Theresa, thank you! I know once you had a limited schedule you’d probably want to use the time differently across the board. I agree that we are on some weird telepathic wavelength. This kind of stuff happens pretty frequently to us, right? Haha. Thanks for the vote of confidence with the switch, and I’ll work to keep a personal element in there too!
      Thanks, lovely. xoxo

  5. Totally support any change you make that feels good to you! I enjoy your Tuesday Tunes and LOVE Careless Whisper, but that said, I am really loving seeing all your Two of a Kinds. You have a serious talent for this – you’ll have to share your process with us someday! They are such a lovely feast for the eyes so keep them coming!!

    1. Thanks, Jennifer! I’ll be sure to bring back Careless Whisper at some point ;) One day I’ll take you through the crazy amount of googling that goes into these, but I’m afraid it will ruin the mystique! Hahah xo

  6. bummer, I just deleted what I’ve written!!!!

So I’ll keep this brief. I don’t prefer one over the other, just keep doing what you feel you should do, cos it’s always great.

I’ve also just noticed that there’s a tiny tiny little smiley at the bottom of this page in the grey footer, blink and you’ll miss it. Now there’s an idea, Where’s Wally? type posts Erin :-)

  7. I liked Tuesday Tunes but Two of a Kind (Tuesday) is also great. Just go with whatever makes you happy because you will convey that in your post!

  8. I read your blog for style advice and tips. You always know what is trendy and what is NOT. You also have a great eye for design.

I’m not saying that you don’t have good music taste. In fact, most everyone would say my music taske is questionable. I like country and pop music; throw in some classic rock and techno too!

Bottom line is I prefer you two of a kind post and would like to see more!
