Tuesday Tunes

I mentioned on Friday that I’ve been listening to Adele non-stop, finally catching up with the rest of the world. Next up I think I’ll listen to the Beatles, everyone says they’re really good (I’m totally kidding). All of the praise that has been bestowed upon her is justified a million-fold. It is refreshing to see someone who can actually sing receive tons of awards and recognition for her voice rather than someone who wore a dress made out of meat. Give me talent over theatrics any day of the week.

But this isn’t just any day of the week; it’s Tuesday, which means I’d be remiss if I didn’t devote a little attention to Adele. I normally try to post only album versions or official music videos of the songs I pick for these posts (maybe with the occasional hommage to George Michael’s eyebrows). But for this particular track from her album “21” I went with a live performance, because her voice is seriously so flawless that there is no difference between her singing this live or in a studio. Good lord, girl, you can do no wrong.

So since this is a cover, I have to ask: do you like her rendition or the Cure original better? Or do you like both equally, for different reasons?

  • I normally hate this sort of music but you can’t help but love Adele. Hometown and Someone Like You are my favourites, gives me goosebumps. Plus her refusal to bow to the industry. She stuck her fingers up at the tv producer at the Brit Awards when they tried to cut short her acceptance speech. It was very funny. Give me her over the Beatles anyday. I HATE Paul McCarnery. Ugh.

    • ….you HATE Paul McCartney?? I didn’t even realize that was an option!

  • She is a great artist. She gets a lot of flack here in the UK for her music being so miserable and melancholic. Duh! stupid people. My favourite track on this album is Set Fire To The Rain. Could you imagine if we could actually do that.. wierd hey?

I hate Paul McCartney too Annie, don’t know what all the fuss is all about.

Have you got this album from itunes? They did a track by track videocast thingy in which she was interviewed and talked about every track. I think you would like her home (I’m assuming it was her home).

    • I love that track, too! I love how gritty her voice gets in it. My mom bought it at Target and it comes with an additional disc of goodies but I haven’t checked them out yet! I might be in for a treat :)

  • Love Adele … what a voice! xxCat

    • She’s so talented!!

  • I really like this! PS – I went to karaoke the other night and this man belted out an Adele song perfectly!

    • Ha! A man?? I’m impressed!

  • Great choice, Erin! (I heart you even more now, if that’s even possible.) I like both versions equally for different reasons. The Cure takes me back to high school, so it holds a special place in my heart. Adele’s version breathes new life into the song and is incredibly soulful. 21 is really a perfect album – every single song is amazing.

    • Squeal! I heart you more :) I’m with you, I like both versions for different reasons. And you’re right, the entire album is incredible. I only have a small number of albums I can listen to the whole way through without skipping a track, and her’s is on that list.
